After the Hardavan Wars and the Croskin Plague, the people of Kalste were ready for peace. Skillia was one of the first to enter this age wholeheartedly, and quickly became famous for their friendliness. Shelter for refugees was offered, and Skillia, unprepared for the sudden influx, often had hundreds of people on the streets. However, there were those who were anxious to change this.
When King Ferdan died, the voting of the next king was prepared over a period of a few weeks. Recommendations by the leaders of Skillia were sent out. The people decided, though, to ignore the recommendations, and instead, voted a much younger man, a nephew to King Ferdan.
Aladir Retham was a father of five, a husband of a lovely wife and a simple farmer who had never considered, despite the fact that he was a prince, that he might get voted as king.
Woefully unprepared, he did the best he could, considering the circumstances and after his coronation sent out a proclamation, requesting suggestions. The people adored him instantly. The Court of Council was not so enthused about this unexpected leadership, and most of them did not like Aladir. Attempts on his life were common, as well as the lives of his family.
